Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici
Violinist and conductor. Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici studied violin with Stefan Gheorghiu at the Ciprian Porumbescu Conservatory in Bucharest. In 1986-1992 he was the first concertmaster of the Orchestra of the Finnish National Opera. In 1992-2022 he was the first concertmaster of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed with such distinguished conductors as Sergiu Celibidache, Christian Thielemann, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta and Valery Gergiev. Video and audio recordings of these concerts have been released on compact discs. In 2000 he became first violinist of the Berlin Philharmonic Octet. From 2004 to 2022 he led the Munich Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and gave numerous concerts around the world with such renowned soloists as Hélène Grimaud, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Nikolai Scheps-Znaider, David Fré, Martin Stadtfeld, Vadim Repin, Nikolai Lugansky, Daniil Trifonov, Alexander Kantorov and others.
In 2013 Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici took over the Mariinsky Theatre’s Stradivarius Ensemble,
which was founded on Valery Gergiev’s initiative in 2009. The ensemble brings together leading soloists from the theatre’s Symphony Orchestra. The musicians play on period instruments, most of which were made between 1700 and 1780.The ensemble performs with unwavering success at the Mariinsky Theatre and tours as an independent ensemble in Russia and abroad. Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici plays the Antonio Stradivari ex-Heifetz violin (1732) on which the young Yasha Heifetz once played.
Since 2022 he has led the Münchner Virtuosen Chamber Orchestra, which he founded.
