Geza Hosszu-Legocky
Violin virtuoso. Grammy Award winner. Member of the project «Gezalius & The Bohemian Virtuosi». Creator of the ensemble «The 5 DeViLs». Today Geza plays on a 1766 Lorenzo & Tomasso Carcassi violin, generously lent to him by the great violinist and artistic director of Pietra Santa in Concert, Michael Guttman.
Geza’s exceptional talent and passionate temperament earned him a reputation for demonic virtuosity, a term attributed to the great Paganini himself.
At the age of six, he was selected by Dora Schwarzberg for admission to the Vienna Academy of Music; the following year he was already touring Italy with the Udine Orchestra. A year later, François Gerard invited him to play in the Hollywood film «The Red Violin» with the actor Samuel L. Jackson.
As a guest soloist he has performed with major orchestras and conductors such as the NHK Philharmonic Orchestra with Charles Dutoit, as well as with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under Meng Woon Chang and Thierry Fischer, and the Swiss-Italian Radio Orchestra under Jacek Kapszsyk. In 2001 he was recognised as the most gifted violinist of his age.
Geza has played with living legends such as Martha Argerich, Mischa Majski, Charles Dutoit, Yehudi Menuhin, Ruggiero Ricci, Ivry Gitlis, Ida Hendel, Gidon Kremer, Meng Woon Chang, Michael Guttman, Yasha Heifetz, Nathan Milstein, Wynton Marsalis, Maxim Vengerov and Sergei Babayan.
He gives masterclasses at prestigious institutions around the world, from South America to Asia, and is committed to passing on his knowledge and experience to the next generation of musicians.
