Dmitri Jurowski
Born in Moscow in 1979, he is a member of a renowned musical dynasty. At the age of 6, he began studying cello at the Central Music School of the Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky. After his family moved to Berlin, he continued his cello studies. He studied conducting at the Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. Since 2005, he has been working as a conductor in both opera and symphonic repertoire.
As an opera conductor, Dmitri has performed at the world’s major music venues: Bavarian State Opera (Munich), Deutsche Oper (Berlin), Semperoper (Dresden), Paris Opera Bastille, Lyric Opera of Chicago, La Fenice Theatre (Venice), Monaco Opera, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía (Valencia), Israeli Opera (Tel Aviv), and Bolshoi Theatre (Moscow).
His creative interests focus on the works of Wagner, Strauss, Zemlinsky, Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Shostakovich, and Prokofiev.
As a symphony conductor, Dmitri has collaborated with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in Manchester, the orchestras of La Fenice Theatre, the Royal Theatre of Turin, the Tuscan Philharmonic (Parma), the Milan orchestra «I Pomeriggi Musicali», the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra (Lisbon), the Munich Radio Orchestra, the philharmonic orchestras of Dresden, St Petersburg and Shanghai, the symphony orchestras of Hamburg and Vienna, Hague Residence Orchestra, Irish Radio and Television Orchestra, and the Svetlanov State Academic Symphony Orchestra.
In the summer of 2010, Jurowski made his debut with the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia as part of a tour of Dmitry Chernyakov’s production of the opera «Eugene Onegin» at London’s Covent Garden, the Royal Theatre in Madrid, and the Lucerne International Festival.
From 2011 to 2019, he was principal conductor of the Royal Flemish Opera in Antwerp and Ghent. From 2011 to 2018 – principal conductor of the Russian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Moscow. From 2015 to 2021, Dmitri was the music director and principal conductor of the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. From 2021 to 2023, he was the artistic director and principal conductor of the same theatre. In September 2023, Jurowski became the music director and principal conductor of the Krasnoyarsk Hvorostovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre until September 2025. In January 2026, he headed the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Regional Philharmonic.
