General information

The International Competition for Young Musicians “Symphony of Yamal” is the first of its kind international competition among academic musicians held in the Arctic zone of Russia.

The main objective of the Competition is to popularize classical art, give young gifted musicians an opportunity to express themselves, strengthen and expand cultural ties between countries. The competition is held for musically gifted youth from 16 to 30 years old inclusive. The regulations of the Competition set the following nominations: “piano”, “violin”, “cello”.

The competition consists of the I qualifying round, II, III rounds and the Final.

The I round is held remotely (by video recordings), the II, III rounds and the Final will be held in person in the city of Salekhard (YANAO). The I and II rounds provide for a solo performance (in the categories “violin” and “cello” – accompanied by an accompanist if necessary), the III round and the Final are accompanied by an orchestra. The first qualifying round (remotely, by video recordings) will take place in the period from 21.12.2023 to 29.12.2023.

The second round, the third round and the Final (Closing Ceremony) will take place from 06.02.2024 to 11.02.2024.

Outstanding figures of culture and art – world-famous musicians from Russia and foreign countries are invited to the authoritative jury. The artistic director of the competition is People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of culture and art, Member of the Presidential Council for Culture and Art, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, President of the Interregional Charitable Foundation “New Names” – Denis Matsuev.

Future laureates will receive cash prizes:

Grand Prix of the competition — 1,000,000 rubles,

  • I prize — 500,000 rubles
  • II prize – 400,000 rubles
  • III prize – 300,000 rubles
  • the title of “Diploma holder” – 100,000 rubles.

The competition is destined to promote classical music. It will help young gifted musicians to make themselves known, meet fellow musicians, and exchange their experiences, provide opportunities for professional development of talented young performers. The international format will help to strengthen and expand cultural ties between across the borders.

The competition will feature performances by such legends of contemporary Russian and international stars as Denis Matsuev, Valery Piassetski and others. It is an outstanding opportunity for young talents to be inspired by the masters and receive valuable lessons and instruction from them. The prize fund will enable the winners to realize their creative dreams and act as a major boost for their professional development.
